Instilled values.
When I was younger, my parents instilled in me the value of respecting others, giving me a sense of purpose that I carried into adulthood.
Viral Tribute:
I was extremely moved when I came across a photograph of a US soldier standing at attention in the rain. Recognising its significance, the photographer shared it with the globe, eliciting tremendous support for the soldier.
Heartwarming act
On July 6, 2017, Erin Hester noticed the soldier’s compassionate gesture at a Vine Grove, Kentucky, junction. Despite not being a part of the funeral procession, he stood in respect, prompting Hester to film the scene.
Hester’s Facebook post about the soldier’s appreciation received a lot of attention and was well-received by many who valued his honourable actions.
Soldier Identified.
After the message went viral, the soldier was identified as Col Jack L. Usrey, Senior Army Advisor for the Tennessee Army National Guard.
Humble Response
Usrey commended his parents with instilling in him the virtues that resulted to his kind gesture. He modestly downplayed the accolades, stating his hope that his simple gesture would convey care and sympathy to the bereaved family.
You can see more on the story in the video below:
Col. Usrey might try and play his gesture down, but we think it’s both mighty impressive and a brilliant way to pay respect.
